Submission Guidelines

General

La Fuente is looking for original creative work that exhibits strong understanding of artistic craft and theme. Submissions should not include identifying information: we use a blind judging process to evaluate work. Issues are released at the end of each quarter, and students may submit to the same genre once per issue. If an issue is themed, please attach a brief cover letter explaining how your work relates to the theme. If you are submitting multiple pieces to the same issue, your cover letter should cover all of the submitted pieces. You may submit to up to 2 genres per submission period by filling out the submission form twice.

Prose

Prose should be written in Times New Roman, 12-pt font, and double-spaced, with page numbers included. Flash fiction should be under 800 words, short stories under 2,500 words, and creative nonfiction under 2,000 words. You may submit up to 3 pieces of flash fiction, 2 short stories, or 2 pieces of creative nonfiction per submission period. Please do not submit school assignments.

Poetry

Poetry should be written in Times New Roman, 12-pt font, and double-spaced, with page numbers included. Poems should be left-aligned unless there is a specific reason for alternative formatting, which should be explained in a cover letter (even if the issue is not themed). We accept all forms of poetry, including prose poems. You may submit to 4 poems per submission.

Art

You may submit up to 4 pieces of art, digital or traditional, per submission period. Art should be submitted as a photo attachment on the submission form.
